‘Next Sunday, your face will be on tens of thousands of breakfast tables,’ says Miss Bailey. ‘Your photo is going on the front cover of the magazine. Can you imagine that?’No, I can’t. Could you?
Emmy Travis is determined to be famous. A movie star.
Some day.
But fame comes much sooner than expected, for the strangest of reasons. Is being a celebrity a dream or a nightmare? Emmy is about to find out...
Famous Me is my oldest book, best for ages 11 - 13, and there’s a lot of me in it! At school, I always wanted to be in the school play. As for the rhubarb crumble incident (see Chapter 28) - that ACTUALLY HAPPENED. I was eleven years old at the time, and supposed to be starring in the school play that night. But I had rhubarb crumble at lunch and was too sick to perform. I remember it so vividly... going to the doctor, missing the show, my best friend Deborah stepping onto stage instead of me. It was one of the worst days of my life, for sure.
But I have stepped onto many stages since. I still love the thrill of performing.
The cover for this book was drawn by sixth-former Alicia Walker. I loved the idea of having a doodle cover, like it’s Emmy’s own journal, but I can’t doodle well enough to do it myself. So I ran a competition for young doodlers, drawers and illustrators, offering the chance to draw the cover of the book, and Alicia won. She drew several designs, all wonderful, and I took them into various schools to see what people liked best. This design won.
